Need Help Studying for the SAT Subject Tests?
The SAT II test is a group of standardized test on 20 individual subjects. The questions are all multiple choice, with one hour for each section except the writing test which has a 20 minute essay and a 40 minute multiple choice section (the writing test was stopped in 2005). The SAT II test was called the Achievement Tests prior to 1994 and then later called the SAT IIs up until 2004. Now they are known as SAT II or the SAT Subject Test.
Each test subject is scored on a scale of 200 to 800. The generous marking procedure however makes getting a score of 200 impossible. The student can chose to write the subject test in whatever order or sequence they prefer but have to take three at a time. There is a five minute break between the first and second subject test on the test day and just a minute between the second and third test. During these breaks students are not permitted to look at any subject or review material.
Prior to 2005, most colleges require that student applicants write and pass three subject tests (writing inclusive), and two other subjects of choice. Now, most just require just two test subject scores. The subjects required depend on the course of study. Some schools or colleges accept the ACT test as a substitute to the SAT II test while others accept the ACT test and still require the SAT II Subject Test. Students should check to be sure of the school’s requirements first.
