Tips and Strategy for Answering Matching Questions
- Patterns are Key: Look at each image closely and look for patterns or similarities and any images that are missing or different from the pattern.
- Details Details: Generally, the odd image will have a different color, shape, size, orientation, or other distinctive features.
- Context: Is there an overall pattern, category or theme? Do all four images correspond to the category or theme?
- Elimination: Elimination is the most powerful strategy for answering multiple choice. Any choices that are obviously wrong eliminate right away. More on multiple choice strategy
- Get Creatively: The difference in the odd image may not be obvious. The odd image may have a subtle difference. Use your creativity and critical thinking skills to identify these differences.
- Break it down: If comparing all four images at once is difficult, try comparing pairs.
- Double-Check: Good advice for answering any type of question.
- Practice: Like any skill, practice makes perfect. Try solving different types of matching questions regularly to improve your ability to spot patterns and identify outliers.
